"Preserving the Harvest" presented by Emily Paster
Emily will present to us five ways to preserve your garden harvest from canning to freezing to drying and root-cellaring. During her program, she will offer an in-depth description of water-bath canning, a versatile and accessible method of home food preservation for the everyday food you eat. Each of us will receive a copy of Emily's "Freezer Cheat Sheet" which demystifies the process and important health benefits of freezing and using home-growm vegetables.
Bio: Emily comes to us with a wide variety of experiences behind her. A lawyer by training, Emily began her second career in food writing and social media. Her writings for the Chicago Parent Magazine and through her website "West of the Loop" and Blogs-Top Mommy and Family Food, she discusses food and entertaining. Emily provides her expertise to teaching classes and demonstrations at a variety of stores, radio and TV shows, farmers markets and libraries around the Chicago area. With her co-founding the "Chicago Food Swap" in 2011, she has brought together home cooks and gardeners every month to trade and barter their home made and homegrown foods. Her first book, Food Swap, has just been published this past May.
