Every Garden Tells a Story Garden Walk

Cost: $15 in Advance, $20 on the Day

The Darien Garden Club will showcase six creative and diverse private gardens created by our members that will serve as inspiration to all that gardens are uniquely individual and reflect the personality and goals of their gardeners. Each garden has a story to tell of its evolution; its gardener’s objectives and passions, and the site’s challenges and successes. Club members will serve as docents to guide and interpret their tales.

Although varied in size and design, these gardens illustrate the overarching theme of the event-that is, that gardening becomes a passion that expands the gardener’s creativity, curiosity, knowledge and tenacity. The garden becomes the teacher. Here are the gardens and their themes:

1. The Serendipitous Garden demonstrates how a gardener transitions from unintentional to serious. Is it a happy accident?

2. Going Native is the story of how and why a lovely very private garden and functional outdoor space is converting to the use of more native plants.

3. The Intentional Gardener illustrates how a garden morphs over time, from barren to abundant to intentionally benefitting the wildlife it attracts and becoming more sustainable.

4. Garden Palette demonstrates the art of gardening. This space is a deliberate canvas of a range of colors and textures beloved by the gardener.

5. The Flower Arranger’s Garden is crammed with all the flowers and vegetables enjoyed by the gardener that ultimately get cut, arranged and generously shared with friends.

6. Included in the mix is the Sprouts Club Learning Garden that is planted and maintained by the children, families, and volunteers of the Sprouts Club, that fulfills the club’s mission to bring the love of gardening to the littlest green thumbs.
