How to Garden Wiser as You Grow Older

Join us for an insightful evening as we explore the joys of gardening and learn how to adapt our practices as we age. Our expert speaker, Marilyn Joyner, Owner of Gentle Hands, Gentle Heart (Customized Horticulture Programs), will share valuable insights on selecting the right plants, implementing ergonomic tools, and utilizing smart gardening practices.

6:30 pm - Social Time - Enjoy visiting with our friendly members,

7:00 pm - Presentation by Marilyn Joyner, Gardening for a Lifetime; How to Garden Wiser as You Grow Older

8:00 pm - General Meeting - Find out all about DGC and the activities available to our members. All are welcome to stay.

NOTES:

The presentation and meeting will be in a hybrid format. The zoom link will be shared via Eventbrite emails closer to the date.

· Developed and implemented customized Horticulture Programs for Ray Graham Organization and Sequin Services (both organizations service individuals with developmental disabilities)

· Teaches Vocational Skills Horticulture at College of DuPage

· Teaches Leisure Gardening Classes at College of DuPage

· Teaches Vocational Skills Hospitality at College of DuPage

· Teaches Vocational Skills Basic Floral Design at College of DuPage

· Member of the Development Team for the COACH (Career Opportunity Achievement) Program at College of DuPage

· Member of the Downers Grove Organic Gardeners

· Former member of AHTA (American Horticulture Therapy Association)

· Retiree from AT&T (35 years)

· Avid Gardener

Volunteerism:

· Vice President of DuPage Friends of Extension

-Advocates for and plan fundraisers to support the Illinois Extension Community Programs for families, youth, and adults in DuPage County (e.g. Master Gardeners program, 4-H, Naturalists Program, Nutrition and Health, Finances, and more).

· Director/Educator/Lead Gardener for OLI Gardens in Joliet and Naperville

-Grows produce for the Joliet Warner-Clarke Community Center Food Pantry

-Establishing a Community Garden in Joliet, promoting self-efficiency (5 year

-project).

-Teach gardening skills to residents in different communities and food pantries.

- Our mission is to eliminate food scarcity in our Illinois communities.
